// Another new wallpaper! [6.19.2008]

ChainsPosted by Chains!

Hey guys---sorry about the lack of updates lately. We've all had a number of things to take care of before we could start our summers, but you can rest assured that Crisis is still very much in the making. The battle system is coming closer to completion, which in itself is a pretty large feat. Much ado to Tykwondo for his amazing coding skills. ^^

A new wallpaper has been done by Jacob North and added to the website. Check it out below:

Wallpaper

Be sure to grab the size you need from the Downloads section. ^^ A special widescreen section has been added as well for those of you with widescreen monitors or laptops.

A large update is on the way so just bear with us while we prepare for it. Next up is Lena with news on the updated sprites so feast your eyes on her goody-fest. ^^

// Let's look back... [6.19.2008]

LenaPosted by Lena!

This is sort of a dual update, but I also wanted to let you guys know that things have picked up on the graphical front. We had some speedbumps (springtime was a total horror), but everything has begun moving along again. While it isn't significant, I've made some pretty nice improvements to the sprites. Just for fun, to show their evolution, I made a pic showing... Well, their evolution! ^_____^ Enjoy!

Xavier's Evolution

Yeah, I don't know what I was doing on Xavier 2 and 3. I mean, Jesus. Look at his head! Anyway, here are the rest of the updated sprites...

Xavier
Matison
Celia
Raia

I think Matison shows the best improvement.

Anyway, like Chains says above, there's a big update coming. A -real- one too. Like, with Crisis stuff in it. So keep posted--'cause we'll... Uh, be posting it eventually.

// New Wallpaper [4.13.2008]

ChainsPosted by Chains!

Hello everyone! Great news: I've hired a new artist, Jacob North, to do promotional art including things like scene art and wallpapers! He's submitted his first piece which you can check out below:

Wallpaper

Look forward to lots more from him in the future!

I'd also like to announce the development of a small game I'll be working on based on a fanfic I wrote a long time ago, Legacy: The Story of Lucca Ashtear. The story is currently being revised to reflect my current writing skills. It will be a small game completely unrelated to Crisis that will use Chrono Trigger's graphics (as well as new graphics) and have custom systems implemented that will allow it to play out just like Trigger! Be sure to check out the forum for more information and to read the old fanfic!

// Symbol of undying love [4.11.2008]

LenaPosted by Lena!

As those of you who frequent the forums know, Xenith and I are... Well... Pretty in love with each other. ^____^ A lot of people on the forum (those who didn't think it was an April' Fool's joke, anyway) were asking about details, so Xen and I got together over the last few weeks and worked on a new comic detailing how this came to be. So... Go check it out!

I really do love him with all my heart. I know I've been saying it a lot recently, but... I really do. He saved me in more ways than one. And I can't express my love for him often enough. It's something I was worried I'd never experience. And... After experiencing, I know why I was content before burying myself in work for weeks at a time. I was lonely, and felt unfulfilled. My friends and family were leaving, trying to find work and school was failing, and I was beginning to feel like my life was little more than a waste of the planet's resources. And it's front page worthy to note that there were times when I sort of wished... That I hadn't lived past childhood. It sounds sort of emo and out-of-character for me to say, but for the last three years or so... It was something that I often lamented.

So Xenith... Thank you. Every time I hear your voice I can't help but smile. Every time I hear that you're happy, I'm happy. Whenever I hear you're sad, I'm sad. When you tell me it'll be OK, I loose all thoughts that something bad might happen. You're my strength, my muse, my reason for being.

// New Comic! [3.20.2008]

I don't want to overshadow the delicious updatefest below, so I'll be brief. There's a new comic today, celebrating the significance of today. ^___^ Go check it out!

// Big update! [3.20.2008]

ChainsPosted by Chains!

Hello all! Lots of good news, so let's get right to it!

The artwork for Raia Ashtear (Formerly named Lutania) has been finalized and completed!

Raia

Her character page has also been added here on the site.

In addition to Raia's finalized artwork, a finalized design has been made by DodgingTires for Calypso. It will later be redrawn by Dice to match the Crisis style, but I'd really like to show off this amazing art of Calypso in her concert attire.

Calypso
Calypso chibi

Check out her cute little sprite, too!

I signed a new Ruby coder onto the team and he's gotten right to work on the battle system! That said, I decided it was time to finalize its layout and structure. We decided to stick with the smaller sprite size, BUT battles will take place on the map just like in Chrono Trigger. Lena created a mock up which you can see below.

Battle1 Battle2 Battle3

Keep in mind that it has NOT been skinned yet and this is just a basic layout. However, there will be several different themed skins that you can change at will for both the battle system and message window. Onto the mechanics!

"How will it work?" you might ask. Well, it's pretty simple. Battles are fought in ATB (hence the gauges). Once a character's turn comes up, a ring of commands (Attack, Item, Support Tech, and Tech List) will appear around them. You select your choice by pressing up, left, right, or down, whichever commands corresponds to that direction. If Attack is chosen, you will choose an enemy and that character will run up to them and you will then have to enter button commands consisting of A, B, and Y (Space, Shift, and Enter for you keyboard users). Each attack will reduce your Stamina, indicated by the number in the circle on each character's info box.

Simple enough, eh? Things get a little more fun with techs. In Crisis, techs work just like a combo attack (as they always have). Each one has a combination of keys you have to hit. Techs consume more stamina than a normal attack (each has a base cost on top of the cost of reaching the tech with your successive attacks). If you don't have enough stamina left to perform the tech after you've built it up, it won't happen.

The "tech list" button is a list of your available techs. Scroll down to the tech you want to view and press accept. This list also tells you the base cost of each tech. If you hit left or right on this screen, you will be taken to your learned double and triple techs. Clicking accept on these items will display who the techs are to be preformed with, what each combination is, and how much it will cost with each character.

How do dual and triple techs work, anyway? Just like in Trigger (and Cross), double and triple techs become available when two or three characters have all learned certain prerequisite techniques that they can combine into a coordinated strike. Also, in order to activate this move, both characters have to have turns available at the time. In Crisis, the idea is the same, but the payoff is a little higher. Of course, because of this, it's a little more difficult than just picking what you want to do out of a list.

Basically, your techs build on each other. Say you want to perform a double tech that requires Xavier and Matison. First, you'd take your lead character (we'll say it's Xavier. It could be either one, really), and begin your attack. Your first goal is to set off the single tech that builds into the dual tech. Once you do that successfully, Xavier will perform the single tech. This is your chance! During the single tech, if a dual is possible, you will see a "L" or "R" over your character's head. If you press L (or R), you'll get a notification that you've set a dual strike. The action will freeze, and you will have a set time limit to enter the command for the second character. If you can't remember your tech, you can call up the tech menu (probably with select, L or R) and view the list. There's a time limit though, so don't dawdle too long. Enter it correctly, and your dual tech will begin after the damage from the single is dealt.

Triples are the same as this, only you have two characters involved. You would see "L" over the head of one character, and "R" over the head of the other during your single. First you'd select a character just as though you were going to do a dual tech (and enter the commands). During the dual tech, you have to select your third character in the same way, enter their commands, and sit back and enjoy the chaos that ensues.

It's sort of complicated sounding when written out, but it'll make for battles that are a little more interesting than the everyday "point and click" variety. It should also make for some really cool combination attacks as you're literally attacking 3 times (single, dual, and finally triple).

Aside from Attack and Tech List, Item is of course selected in order to use whatever items you possess in your inventory, and Support Tech is for using healing Techs/Magic and stat raising Techs/Magic. These don't require button inputs like weapon based techs. And there you have it! There will be a more in depth explanation with pictures on the forum sometime soon, so if you're confused on something be sure to check for that in the near future.

In other news...

Roe has completed a nice heap of songs, and a new clip has been uploaded! It's a remake of a previous clip representing the "Boss 2" theme, The Enemy Intensifies. Feast your ears on "Good Will Triumph" below:

Good will triumph

Lena has made good progress on the battle sprites as well as other in-game sprites! (Also redoing the whole character section without breaking the site! Wooo! -Lena)

I've made significant progress on the game script as well as finalized the lyrics for the song to be performed by Calypso during the Millennial Celebration!

Xenith has made progress on designing and coloring more weapons!

That's all for now! Be sure to check out the forum for a lot of new information on the 1999 AD characters as well as profiles and sprites for newly revealed minor characters!

// Another week, another update. [3.06.2008]

LenaPosted by Lena!

No pretty pictures today, guys, but I figured I'd check in.

A lot of work was completed this week for Crisis. The battle system redesign went off without a hitch. Once we have it up and running, I'll grab some screenshots for you guys. I think you'll like it. ^___^

Also, this is a bit important. Please, don't post screenshots from Crisis and claim they're from an official sequel. While doing this gets us a little more exposure, it isn't the kind we want. The last thing we want is Square thinking is that we're claiming to be "the next official Chrono game on DS or Wii". That's like begging for a "Cease and Desist".

// Shoop de whoop! [2.28.2008]

LenaPosted by Lena!

Alright! Since the new comic is taking longer thanks to Lena-braindeadedness, Xenith whipped together a nice little filler for you. Enjoy!

// New comic! [2.16.2008]

LenaPosted by Lena!

No, we didn't forget about the comic. LOL In fact, here's an episode now! This one is brought to you from the brain of Xenith, and from the drawing utensils of yours truly. It's to celebrate my newly aquired Wacom Tablet (THANK YOU DANIEL AND JACQUI! THE TABLET IS MUY SEXEH!) and scanner. Anyway, we should have more normal updates from now on--I think we all needed a bit of a break after Dreamscape.

Also, I'm thinking of doing something fun with the boss's permission. Gotta remember to ask him tomorrow. (hopefully by putting this here, he'll ask me about it in case I forget. LOL) 5AM updates are FUN!

// Chrono Crisis update! [02.09.2008]

LenaPosted by Lena!

It's been a while since the last update, so I figured I'd bring some things up to speed. We're still alive and kicking (rather well, actually).

I shall start with a message from our brave leader, Chains, who is currently fighting demons in the Seplunde Nebula.

ChainsMessage from Chains!

"Hey everyone! Sorry for the lack of updates-things have been pretty hectic for all of us. But rest assured, Crisis is still very much in development (as it will remain.) Some new screenshots and artwork will be coming soon so be sure to check back periodically!" ~END MESSAGE

And there you have it. ^__^ I do have a few other things to report at present, so here they are.

  • We a new team member! ProjectPat has joined as another spriter, which is really really really awesome. He's doing a bang up job on the walking animations for our NPCs!
  • We also have a pending team member. It's another artist! (Oooh, mysterious!) I'll post more about this new comer when the time comes. ^^ (He already hangs out at the forum, but I'll let you guys play the guessing game for a while).
  • We ALSO have some new programmers, but again, info on them will come a bit later.
  • Roe's done some new musics. ^___^
  • I got to see snow! (Seriously!)
  • LOADS of NPCs have been completed since the last status update. It's like, madness or something.
  • We made more progress on tiles. ^___^
  • The "Secret Badness" is still being worked on--expect it in a month or two. It'll be worth the wait. ^___^

And that's more or less what's been going on! Stay tuned for a more official update eventually!

// New Wallpapers! [12.20.2007]

Hee hee--I kinda forgot to post these two days ago. We've got two new wallpapers from Lightningstrike! These feature some of the artwork that was showcased during the November 1st update. Enjoy!

// Final Episode of Dreamscape up! [12.18.2007]

LenaPosted by Lena!

This is it! The final episode of the Halloween comic! ...yeah, we know it's almost Christmas, but better late than never, eh? Anyway, I guess you could call it the lost episode. The story isn't fully over, but the comic is. :3

Anyway, I really want to thank Xenith for all of his hard work. Seriously guys, he was like drawing like a maniac through all of October. I also wanna thank the Crisis team members who took time out of their busy days to write their scripts for the comic. ^^ And Blnnnk and Corona!01 for helping out with the coloring for the final episode. This was a lot of fun, and though we ended up missing our original deadline, I think it went over pretty well. ^^ If we do this again, we'll be sure to start earlier, so we don't end up nearly drawing ourselves to death! :3

Anyway, stay tuned for the ULTRA SPECIAL SECRET badness to come, and I hope you guys enjoyed this as much as we did.

Oh, and, uh--happy belated Halloween. LOL

// Halloween Update! Treats Galore! [10.31.2007]

ChainsPosted by Chains of Fate!

As promised, we have a special update for today! ^^ Unfortunately, the finale comic written by me won't be up until the weekend, since we want to make it perfect... but on to the update!

Firstly, something I'm sure everyone will be excited to see... finalized artwork for Xavier, Matison, and Celia! All done by our wonderful new artist, Dice. I'm sure you'll notice that Matison's outfit is different, this is because I felt the old design didn't really catch Matison's personality and battle style perfectly. I also wanted to give her a more futuristic look and a cool accessory. (Headphones! XD)

poster

You can see the new designs at the gallery and character pages! Secondly, there's a new screenshot available in the Gallery. Don't you just love convenience stores?

Title of Image

Next up, a new music clip has been put up in Downloads, "Forward to the Past". In addition, we have a link to another song (titled "Dreaming by your Side") to be featured in Crisis, which you can get by visiting RoeTaKa's soundclick so definitely give those a listen. Where will they be used in the game? Can't say. ^__~

Link to Roe's Soundclick

Finally, I had our second new artist prepare a teaser poster for this occasion. Check out it:

This poster is an ad for an upcoming concert in the Crisis world, featuring the hottest music artist in Guardia, Calypso. Calypso used to be a somewhat different character who went by another name. Hardcore fans may remember the old version of her, do you?

Well, I hope everyone enjoyed this update! Happy Halloween! Now go out and do something fun!

LenaPosted by Lena!

That's right kids! It's Halloweening time, and we're at the beginning of an eleven-day comic posting spree! Every day between now and Halloween, we will post a brand new chapter in our miniseries, Dreamscape. You can view it here under the comic gallery, or you can check it out at the forum. ^___~

And there's more going on as well!

As you see with the comic the team has picked out costumes to wear up to Halloween. So let's see if we can get some cool drawings of your "characters" in costume! All of the drawings will get posted in a special gallery at the website. So if you've wanted to get your art up, here's a good chance.

Just post your drawings in the art forum and name the topic Halloween Costume--or something like that. I'll round up what we get on the 30th and have them posted by Halloween. So far as rules... Just use good judgment. If anyone draws anything obscene, obviously it won't go on the site. Obviously if you want them posted, you'll need to be a forum member. ^^

So, enjoy, everyone! Just remember, it's all in good fun.

// Getting better (and a new comic!) [10.02.2007]

LenaPosted by Lena!

What a long time we went without an update! Happy October! We're now in my favorite season. Summer is for suckers.

Now, as the title says, there's a new comic! Go check it out.

Anyway, things are slowly starting to look a bit better around here (which is greatly due to summer FINALLY ending). My financial woes are FINALLY just about taken care of (I think I've lost like 20 pounds during this whole ordeal, seriously). Jon's still a bit under the weather, but hopefully things will start looking up from his end too--good vibes tend to travel around at times like these.

Anyway, let me get to the nitty gritty of it. We've had an awesome response from potential artists! There IS something I'd like to try out, however. If any of you can do 3D modeling, give me a ring... I won't go into specifics (and no, we're not thinking about doing the game in 3D or anything crazy like that, so don't ask), but the idea I'm toying with IS a cool one, so if you're good with things like 3D and have been waiting for a chance to help out, now's your chance!

I'm assuming you can all gather from this that Crisis isn't going away. We've said before that we do take fan input seriously, and we don't lie.

// Problems?! [09.14.2007]

LenaPosted by Lena!

OK, people who check the forums regularly probably already know this, but I'm sure there are some people don't, so I figured I'd announce this on the site.

We've had... A difficult few months, to put it simply. A few of our key team members have gone missing, and so while we did make progress, progress was slow. This coupled with the combined stress of Jon's medical woes and my own bouts with unemployment really took a toll on the team as a whole. The idea was batted around about how to best handle Crisis, and the idea of making it into an original game was raised. By being original, it'd open us to being able to (legally) sell merchandise and take donations and the like. This in turn would allow us to pay people to help us with the game.

Anyway, the original game would be called "Devil Theory". Jon announced this on the forum and got a less than positive response. Seeing the distress of the fans, he deided to attempt to keep Chrono Crisis a reality. Basically, we're asking for any help we can get. Below are the team positions we need to fill. The forumers and people at the Compendium have already done a great job drumming up support, and I think that if we can get the manpower, completing Crisis won't be nearly as tough.

This week in review

  • Character Artist. Must be able to draw in the anime style. We need someone to do finalized versions of the characters for their menu pictures, as well as possible emotion sets.
  • Tile Artist. Must be able to emulate our current tiling style. Tiling is a daunting job, and we really need to back Val up. The more we have the better.
  • Character Spriters. Must be able to emulate our current spriting style. I have a lot of duties with Crisis beyond sprites, and would totally love to get some support in this area. There are loads of things you can do--monsters, NPCs, poses, mecha, animations, battlers--really, whatever you enjoy spriting.
  • Ruby Programmers. Preferably someone really familiar with RMXP. This person will be picking up where our old programmer left off.

If you would like to apply, please email Jon at JdDalton1988@aol.com. You can also PM him on the forums. If you're going to apply, PLEASE include links to examples (or files) of your work. Have them online before you contact Jon as this helps expedite his answer back to you.

// NEW FANART, WEEK IN REVIEW [08.18.2007]

LenaPosted by Lena!

Hi! We've got a new fanart of Xavier from AndyHello, so go pop over to the fanart section and check it out! Also, I'm going to go over this week in review. Basically, this will address any big announcements, achievements, ect. It's vague, but at least gives a bit of an idea about what we're up to.

This week in review

  • The website was launched!
  • The new concept for Xavier was finally colored!
  • Progress was made in mapping!
  • RoeTaKa got a new computer, and thus can return to the internet!
  • DQuinn figured out the problem with the domain masks!
  • Progress was made in spriting!
  • A new Ruby script was written (Props go to DKO)!
  • I learned to make okonamiyaki!
  • I found the Tenchi Souzou mangas (That is totally front page worthy)!

And there you have it! Also, I want to address a question that has been popping up at the forum about the menu getting cut off. The website is best viewed in Mozilla Firefox or Internet Explorer 6 or 7 at a resolution of 1024 by 768 or higher. Also, if you are viewing the page in windowed mode and have your window only about 1/3rd the way open, it can cause the menu to display incorrectly. If you're experiencing issues with the menu, please check your resolution and browser version before posting about the problem at the forums.

// NEW COMIC! [08.15.2007]

LenaPosted by Lena!

Xenith has completed the fifth issue of our little webcomic, and it is now posted on the Comic page. Since we were a bit tough on the ill-fated Chrono Break in this one, I'd like to remind everyone to take the comics with a grain of salt. LOL Obviously if Square did release Break, it'd probably be good. But as you all know, lately Square has been... Well... Anyway, Xenith has the following disclaimer:

Ok, just a little background on this week's comic. We are NOT claiming that we are better than any future or official Chrono game that Square may or may not create. Lena and I thought it would be funny if we did a comic that was a big what if? and tried to picture the worst possible things Square could do to Chrono Break. LOL XD And its a little bit of a spoof on G4's video game review show X-Play as well.
